New premises for Bikfeax

New location for the Bikefax team as we move up North to establish a base in Penrith in the Northern Lakes. With our new guidebook to Southern Spain now on the shelves, we have just moved straight on to the next big project - moving the office up to the Lake District. But why? You might be asking. Well with so much good mountain biking right on the doorstep and the M6 just moments away, we have now have access to a whole load of good riding from the Yorkshire Moors to the 7stanes, the whole of the Lake District and of course its still easy to get back tothe homeland of North Wales when we need to.

As with our Morzine and Portes du Soleil guidebook, this is very much a mixed combo for both downhillers and cross country riders. After spending a couple of years visiting the area, exploring the trails around El Chorro and the Alpujarras, we decided that this area really was too good to keep secret any longer. So this year we were out there with renewed vigour to put together a collection of the best trails possible in the region.

After a painful race last year at D2D, I was determined to make the most of this unique event this year and decided to go solo. Never having done a solo race before, I knew it was probably going to be more of a steep learning curve than a race but with improved fitness, and Heather as pit crew, I was ready for the challenge.

Bikefax Endurance Race team members, Neil Halcrow and Heather Wilson, have been racing on the DH and XC scene for some time now and make a formidable team. Overall the team has had a pretty good year for its first year in 2007, with 5 top 3 finishes and a selection of good top 20 finishes, and were blessed with some good luck unlike the British summer.

Bikefax conquers Southern Scotland

Were really pleased to be getting such good feedback about our latest guidebook. 'Southern Scotland and the 7stanes - selected mountain bike rides', has been on the shelves for just a couple of months now and the word out there seems to be jolly well done. With nearly 50 routes in four different regions of southern Scotland, itll be a while before you run out of ideas and rides with this guide.

Bikefax meets the Queen

'Funny where you can get to with a mountain bike, little did we realise when we started up Bikefax that it would lead us straight into Buckingham Palace for tea with the Queen'. Earlier this week Sue and Jim Savege, founders of Bikefax, donned their poshest frocks and headed down to London to attend a Royal Garden Party. Summoned by the Welsh Assembly to champion the very finest mountain biking on the planet, Bikefax was nominated for the prestigious honour of attending a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

SSUK Race Report

If you haven't caught on yet, singlespeeding is simply riding mountain bikes with no gears, or one gear if you're being pedantic. Anyway, no shifters, no mechs, no gear cables, just like your first ever bike, but more expensive, probably. Of course, not everyone wants to rid their bike of such useful items - some people turned up and rode with a full compliment of gears and that was fine. I didn't see a copy of the race rules, but I think they went something like this:

One of the longest running debates in the Bikefax office has been what tyres work best on North Wales slate, everyone has their own opinion and choice, but I still wasn’t sure, but then after a call and a couple of emails our friends at Continental Tyres sent me a pair of Continental Mountain King tyres to try.
